100 bike ride with Mayors Hickenlooper and Rybeck

To kick off the Freewheelin bike sharing project for the 2008 DNC, Mayor John Hickenlooper of Denver and Mayor R.T. Ryback of Minneapolis, accompanied by Tim Blumenthal of Bikes Belong and Nate Kvamme of Humana led a ride of about 100 riders to the Green Frontier Fest in Denver's Sculpture Park.

The group of riders were transferring the last of the bicycles to be used in the program from the warehouse where they were assembled to a station from which they will be available to the public. Numerous bicycling advocates and supporters including members of Bicycle Colorado, Bike Denver and the Denver Mayor's Bicycle Advisory Committee and Greenprint Denver not only participated in the ride, but have been involved with the planning and coordination of the entire bicycle sharing effort for the convention.

The Freewheelin bicycle sharing program opens to the public Monday, August 25 running from 7:00am to 7:00pm for the four days of the convention. Sign up here, or stop by any of the seven downtown Freewheelin stations.
